Volunteer to bring STEM into the classroom!

Make a difference in children’s lives just by teaching what you know.
Become a Citizen Teacher!

We are all experts in something; in our careers, in the lab, on the basketball court, in the garden, or in the kitchen. At Citizen Schools, middle school students work side-by-side with experts like you to explore new fields, learn new skills, and create something real for their community!

Citizen Teachers are volunteers who teach middle-school students in low-income communities new skills and expose them to new futures. For ten weeks, volunteers work with a group of 15 students for 90 minutes each week. Volunteers receive up-front training, weekly lesson-plan assistance, and are paired with a trained staff member for on-going in-class support.

Volunteer Today!  Citizen Schools runs programs at school sites in Boston and New Bedford. They are especially committed to bringing high-quality STEM-related apprenticeships into the classroom. Citizen Schools has a growing library of STEM curriculum you can choose from, or they will work with you to design your own. Check out some great ideas for what to teach!

Middle school students need your mind, passion, and expertise in the classroom one afternoon a week.  What will you teach?
