Careers in Science Programs at the New England Aquarium

Career Pathways: Introduction to Field Research

Date: Tuesday, November 27, 2012
Location: New England Aquarium's Harborside Learning Lab
Time: 4:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Grades: 8 – 12
Cost: FREE!

Do you know a student interested in working in the marine science field?
Do you know a student who wants to have a career that makes a difference in the world?

Students are invited to meet and hear from various Aquarium staff who have participated in scientific field research in a variety of unique habitats. Students will also be shown how they can make a difference and live blue by the career path they follow today. Many people working at the Aquarium are proving that no matter their role, an individual can make a difference. Dinner will be provided.

Women in Science

Program for Middle School Students
Tuesday, December 4 Grades 6 – 8
9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Students will have the chance to see what goes on behind the scenes, how our animals are cared for and most importantly, see the possibility for a science-based career for themselves. Through hands-on activities lead by our education staff, students can learn what it takes to become anything from a veterinarian, a field researcher, an animal trainer and more. The event also includes breakfast and lunch with Aquarium staff so that participants can have an informal discussion about their careers.

Teachers can sign-up groups of up to 10 students for this program.

Program for High School Students
Tuesday, December 11
Grades 9 – 12
9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Application Process for Women in Science

Selection of individuals, schools or groups is based on the following criteria:
Teacher or student demonstrates an interest in the marine science field OR how the program will benefit their students or themselves.
Individual or group is located within reasonable driving distance of the New England Aquarium or has access to public transportation.
All programs have a limited capacity; please sign-up early as they fill up quickly.
