Job Posting - STEM Executive Director


The Massachusetts Department of Higher Education is hiring an Executive Director of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)

Following an initial round of highly engaging and informative interviews and subsequent deliberations by the search advisory committee, the job description has been rewritten and the job opportunity re-posted. The nature and scope of responsibilities of this job, and the expertise and experience deemed necessary to fulfill these expectations, are unique. The search advisory committee was thoughtfully informed by the initial phase of this process and is intent on appropriate prioritizing and balancing the selection criteria to yield a field of candidates from which the STEM Executive Director will be chosen.

Position Overview

The STEM Executive Director will lead and manage the Department of Higher Education’s STEM education and workforce development initiative. This position reports to the Associate Commissioner for Economic and Workforce Development and serves as the lead staff to the Governor’s STEM Advisory Council (STEM Council).

A Foundation for the Future: Massachusetts’ Plan for Excellence in STEM Education (2010) established a framework to interest, engage and prepare all students with the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to pursue a wide range of careers in all sectors of the Commonwealth’s economy. Working within this framework, the STEM Executive Director will lead the implementation of current STEM education and workforce development initiatives and develop new innovations to serve an increasingly diverse community of students, improving outcomes and transforming STEM education pre-K to college.
